Sunak’s inadequate and completely confusing scheme baffles even Sunak
Tory Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s new pay subsidy scheme has rightly been condemned as woefully inadequate and deeply confusing. In fact, it’s so confusing that he can’t even get it right himself when he tried to explain it in the Commons today, as Sky News had to point out just afterwards:
So baffling is the scheme that Sunak got it wrong – though with so many overlapping percentages, it’s hardly surprising.
This is not remotely an adequate substitute for the furlough scheme, which Sunak has been cutting toward its close at the end of October – but then, he doesn’t even intend it to be.
He thinks that just because keeping people paid will help demand and reduce the worst of the economic crash his boss’s arrogance and mishandling of the pandemic has caused – alongside tens of thousands of needless deaths and a rapidly towering second wave – it’s ‘fundamentally wrong’ to delay companies throwing them out into the poverty of the vicious Universal Credit system.
And it looks like Sunak wants the new scheme to be thoroughly confusing, so that companies will find it harder to navigate and even more people will find themselves in the dole queue and financial misery.
Never, ever trust a Tory.

If Starmer were PM. I can guarantee he wouldn’t have given the help the Tories have. He’s so focused on achieving a balanced budget and being seen as thrifty, he would have thrown workers under a bus.

Doddy is the female version of wurzel gummidge,totally embarrassing performance and its influence on the pathetic offer from the government is staggering in its ineptitude..We can hand over free money in the billions to the chumocracy of The Conservative and unionist party,but with the working class and small business its full of conditions that makes the whole scheme unworkable and its done deliberately.Can’t the right wing thickos in the Labour party not work out that the establishment do not want to use our money to subsidise the peasantry,its against their religion.And I am becoming increasingly convinced that the PLP majority feel much the same as the Conservative mps and that means NO for the working class.and no support from the government.
Chancellor who can’t even explain workers work 1/3 hours & get paid for that. Then employer & government pay for 1/3, each, of 2/3 hours not worked making = 1/3+1/3=2/3 of 2/3 hours not worked =2/3×2/3=4/9 of hours not worked so worker gets 1/3+4/9= 7/9 of each days pay coming to 7×0.111(recurring) =0.777(recurring) of hours worked. Gov.uk gives 77% of pay which is slightly less.

How any BBC ‘journalist’ can speak the words “investigative reporting” without choking on them is beyond belief.

On Wednesday the trap sprang shut, as Judge Baraitser insisted the witnesses must finish next week, and that no time would be permitted for preparation of closing arguments, which must be heard the immediate following Monday. This brought the closest the defence have come to a protest…..
Even my blog has never been so systematically subject to shadowbanning from Twitter and Facebook as now. Normally about 50% of my blog readers arrive from Twitter and 40% from Facebook. During the trial it has been 3% from Twitter and 9% from Facebook. That is a fall from 90% to 12%. In the February hearings Facebook and Twitter were between them sending me over 200,000 readers a day. Now they are between them sending me 3,000 readers a day…..

Yes,frightening stuff,both for Assange and for the future of free speech.All the sites giving support to Assange are being severely hampered in their efforts to get the story out.Murray himself talks of near 100000 views cut down to 3000 by one platform he uses and fb pretending they have shared for people and haven’t,it is frightening.
In April 21 when unemployment is likely to be at its hight Universal Credit will be cut by £20pw from its current rate. This will apply to all UC claimants both current and future.
