Video: how Matt Hancock hid 445 care home deaths – killed by government policy – during his daily press conference so he could boast about a drop in figures

Health Secretary Matt Hancock boasted on Monday evening that the death toll of the previous 24 hours was the lowest – at a claimed 111 – was ‘the lowest figure since lock-down began’.

What he did not mention was the 445 deaths – mostly people living in residential homes – who have never been mentioned in a daily government press briefing:

Instead, Hancock let his claim stand and skimmed over the fact that the total death toll had risen by 556 on the 24 hours before that, not by 111. The government later issued a note that 445 deaths had been added because of ‘delayed reporting in recent weeks’ – but Hancock did not mention them in his report, nor could they be discerned in his chart.

The 445 deaths were almost entirely those of care home residents – killed by the carnage of a rampant virus seeded into care homes by deliberate government policy to send known-infected people back to homes not equipped to treat or isolate them, where they infected huge numbers of fellow residents. Policy that is still in place even now.

For weeks, all those care-home deaths were ignored completely by the government, because only deaths in hospitals were reported – even those were drastically under-reported – and Johnson, Hancock and co continue to boast of spare NHS capacity created by allowing vulnerable residents to suffocate to death outside hospitals.

And they were ignored again on Monday night, so Hancock could make his little boast as if they had never happened.

  1. Just noticed a couple of things on https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/ I hadn’t known before.
First, clicking on ‘source’ just takes you to GovUK, Twitter or YouTube – not the authoritative sources I’d expected.
Second, the daily totals of deaths are being revised upwards – when or how often I don’t know, but they increase sometimes by tens, sometimes by ones and twos from the totals I’ve copied from the site days before.

  2. If you look at the graph, you will notice a couple of things or maybe you are a true believer. First, their is no differentiation in age. For example the median fatalities rate as recorded in 8 countries eg Austria is approximately 82 years old. In addition, their is no differentiation between those that died from non Covid-19 illnesses eg cancer, dementia, emphysema, Parkinson’s, heart and strokes etc which has been killing people since man first walked the earth and those who died solely from Covid-19 or it was present but only as a secondary condition or those that died from it but with underlying illnesses such as cancer. The graph says Covid – 19 tested positive but a recent article by an NHS doctor disputes the claim that the people did die with it or because of it since he has been issued guidelines to sign the death certificates stating that they died from it when patiently they didn’t. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence from other sources as well supporting this.

  3. Its interesting this was the day we shifted from the scientists announcing the figures and providing commentary on what they graphs and charts mean in favour of the politician. Also Matt Hancock shifted back to the phrase “The number of tests were…” the 3 previous briefings they said “The number of tests carried out yesterday were..” This is because they can’t say a test in the post is a “test carried out”.

  4. “For weeks, all those care-home deaths were ignored completely …. because only deaths in hospitals were reported ”

Another fiction. The rise in deaths in care homes have been contained in the run of confirmed all-cause mortality figures. This is the only reliable source of the number of deaths since the government rendered it impossible to accurately determine cause of death. Nobody knows how much mortality stems from Covid-19 because of that change.

The dire situation in care homes has never been a secret – so there isn’t much point in Hancock concealing figures. The problem is that we don’t know how much of the mortality is significantly attributable to the virus and how much to other causes, including the growing effects of lock-up, and also how much is a natural catch-up in the mortality of the vulnerable population after a previous winter-spring season of exceptionally low mortality.

It is incredible how reporting here consistently misses the target in a frantic bid to create SunMail stories.

So “the growing effects of lock-up” – ie not being able to go surfing, hang-gliding and parachuting – is killing off old people?
So you think after a mild winter more old people will “catch-up” and die like they were supposed to in the summer?
Who told you that was a phenomenon?
