Science committee says it’s impossible to know the ideal time to act – and early is best
Every time the Tories are shown to have inexcusably delayed vital actions to save lives from the coronavirus, they trot out some variant of “We acted at the right time. It wasn’t right earlier, but it’s right now. We know that – because science.”
But the official documentation of the government’s own scientific advisers show that claim to be exactly what it looks like: a blatant and totally groundless excuse:
The government document titled “Official: Potential impact of behavioural and social interventions on a Covid-19 epidemic in the UK – 9 March 2020” exposes the Tory bollocks – by stating frankly that it is impossible to know the ideal time to implement an ‘intervention’:
It will not be possible to time [the interventions’] starting date optimally

And the government’s ‘SPI-M-O’ scientific committee, which advises the official SAGE group recommending strategy to the government, states the obvious: if you don’t know the ‘ideal’ time to intervent, do it early:
Closing schools; imposing social distancing and the lock-down; building PPE stocks; buying ventilators; protecting care home residents; testing and tracing like the World Health Organisation advises and other developed countries are doing; banning large sports events, quarantining passengers from COVID-19 hotspots. All these and more were delayed unforgivably by the Tories – at the cost of thousands of UK lives.
And their excuse is bullshit – say their own scientists.
Just don’t expect to hear this on the BBC and most other ‘mainstream’ media.

Itās truly amazing how the hysterical fear generated by a infectious disease which only affects a very small percentage of people of those the vast majority who will die from it are old age pensioners many of whom with a multitude of illnesses such as cancer, emphysema, dementia, heart diseases,Parkinsonās plus a multitude of diseases which killed man long before the arrival of Corona. Yet, the almost frantic fury by the MSM, the State Broadcaster and a variety of organisations with vested interests in international pharmaceutical corporations plus B&MGF try to present this as the apocalypse. Evidence, facts appear to be disregarded as an inconvenience to impose a de facto police state which have not seen discussed by all those, even on the left, who throw themselves into believing the narrative!

Throw everything at it while the numbers are small enough that your intervention has an overwhelming effect.
That requires intelligent direction by a single authority with a cooperating workforce though – exactly the opposite of what selling the NHS piecemeal to a few score companies with competing interests results in.

I’ve been contemplating firstly whether to respond and if I do how I should reply. After some consideration I decided that it would be disrespectful of me not to reply and the most honest response I could give was a qualified yes.
I’ve never held any personal animosity towards you as a person (just some of your views) I will also admit to on occasion becoming frustrated that some people’s first response when their views are challenged is to directly attack the messenger rather than the message.
I agree with much of what you write (I even give you the odd ‘like’). However on some issues, for instance your views on setting up a new party, our opinions are diametrically opposed and it would be disingenuous of me not to challenge you when I think it is appropriate. I would like to think that in future we could agree when we agree and disagree when we don’t without us both descending into personal abuse.
I appreciate that my response may not be quite what you may have hoped for but I also trust you can appreciate that whilst it is a nuanced reply it is also an honest one.
Is it plausible that the net consensus of SAGE was “just take it on the chin”?
