Video: Theresa May gets torrid reception at Liverpool hospital

Theresa May prepares to leave – or flee? – Liverpool

Theresa May visited Liverpool’s Alder Hey children’s hospital today as part of Tory attempts to sell their ‘ten-year plan’ for the NHS – a package of disguised underfunding combined with victim-blaming of those who dare to become ill.

What her advisers were thinking in bringing her to the least Tory-friendly city in England for this PR exercise is hard to imagine – but it started and ended about as well as would be expected, with a torrid welcome and send-off:

Protesters shouted at her to visit the Royal – the city’s hospital that has stood unfinished because of the collapse of Carillion – demanded to know whether her ten-year plan would be as disastrous for the NHS as the Tories’ ‘5-year Forward View’ has been and encouraged her to be on her way promptly.

SKWAWKBOX comment:

Tory incompetence extends to everything they do – as does their dishonesty.

  1. The “marketisation” of health care was the worst crime of the neoliberals, it led to targets, performance reviews, out sourcing profitable procedures, ward closures, hospital closures, the lunacy of PFI and the current state of the NHS. Imagine a country crazy enough to sell council run old people’s homes so speculators could build “luxury old people’s apartments” in their place. Not only does “the market” not work in health and social care, it actively undermines it. Remember the Tory buzzword “choice”? How much do you have now?

  2. Good job it was only Theresa May visiting the hospital; imagine the chaos had it been Jeremy Corbyn – the crowds filling the street, waving their banners and singing his name. How has this democracy ended up with a PM so despised?
