Corbyn’s team’s large Foodbank donation

As the SKWAWKBOX revealed earlier, Jeremy Corbyn’s team showed a similar spirit to their boss by rolling up their sleeves and volunteering at homeless support centres run by Crisis. Corbyn attended a Crisis centre in north London last weekend in an unannounced visit to speak to homeless people and those who volunteer to help them.

In another largely-unsung show of solidarity with the vulnerable and those going the extra mile to plug the huge holes torn by the Tories in our social safety-net, Corbyn’s team also held a collection before Christmas to raise cash for a contribution to the outstanding initiative Fans Supporting Foodbanks (FSF).

FSF is a joint effort by fans of Everton and Liverpool football clubs – normally fierce rivals but working together to try to alleviate some of the worst hardships inflicted on vulnerable people by government policies, under the motto “Hunger doesn’t wear club colours”. They also cooperate with other groups of fans around the country.

Corbyn’s team collected £200 and delivered a car-load of suitable foods to FSF on Sunday, when one of his staffers came home to Merseyside for the holidays:

Ian Byrne of FSF told the SKWAWKBOX:

We gave Jeremy’s team a list of the kind of stuff we needed – they had a collection and donated a car-full, paid for by a collection in the office. They’re world class.

Byrne tweeted about the donation, but the mention received relatively little attention and none from the media.

SKWAWKBOX comment:

While Tories and centrists sit in ivory towers and pay occasional lip-service to the problems they create or allow, Corbyn, his team and his supporters engage from the ground up to make a difference in spite of the smears, bias and disinformation they face daily.

  2. Corbyn and his team are the real deal. It’s been many years since we had such a spirit of kindness, compassion and concern in British politics. Blessings on their heads.
