Donald Trump’s flexible relationship with reality continued today during a joint press conference with Theresa May.
Asked about his ‘change of tune’ about Theresa May’s lack of competence over Brexit and his opinion that her new approach would ‘kill’ any prospect of a US-UK trade deal, he dismissed it as ‘fake news’ – even though he was recorded saying it:
Trump even went on to tell the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg that he could prove it was fake news because he had recorded the interview. Ironically, all his blatant lie did was draw attention again to his original comments and how damning they were.
Of course, Trump has his own agenda – but his dismissal, justified or not, of May’s Chequers plan and his assertion that it would end any prospect of a deal with the US, will only strengthen the hand of the hard-right Tory parliamentary fringe that is already planning to bring her and possibly her government down next week by rebelling during key Brexit votes in the Commons.

Well, Trump is very careful with his words, he didn’t criticize May just the chequers Brexit’s proposals.
His contact with reality, truth, justice and humanity is about as reliable as his contact with his hair.
Notice how he again warned of the danger to the EU of relying on Russia for gas?
Not only would the reliance be mutual, trade (in this Capitalist world) is better than football for building trust and repairing relations between nations.
It would leave US shale gas businesses disastrously short of customers though, so by definition Russian gas is evil gas and must be fought.
Duh, meant to add… improved relations with Russia would leave NATO a bit short of bogeymen and that’s something ‘big defense’ couldn’t tolerate.
Also noticed the minute Jeremy Corbyn began to speak in Trafalgar Square the BBC presenter started dismissing it as being a predominantly left wing rally and then the picture started to break up – and then it suddenly became essential to rush to Windsor and wait 20 minutes outside the gate – just in case something interesting might happen there.
