As the Grenfell Tower inquiry continued today, Londoner Muhbeen Hussain took dramatic footage as fifty-eight firefighters battled a blaze in the 22-storey, 130-flat Grafton House residential tower-block in Mile End, London.
The bravery of firefighters is evident as they are lifted high up the side of the building to reach the fire, believed to have started around 12.30pm:
There are no reports of serious casualties, but it doesn’t take much imagination to picture how things might have gone had the building been clad in similar materials to those used on Grenfell Tower.

If we’re going to continue to build high we’re going to need to re-think fire protection measures and spend considerably more on them – however little value the Tories place on our lives.
I believe all new build high rises (over 30 m) in England have to have sprinkler system built in. The figure in Scotland is lower, 18m. I think the limit in England should be reduced and it be made compulsory to install sprinkler systems in all high rise buildings, not just new builds
The law should be changed to say that a domestic sprinkler system should be present in every new build, tower block or otherwise. in most cases of a new build it would add less than £4000 to the cost.
