As the SKWAWKBOX covered on Friday, Tory MPs blocked legislation to outlaw ‘upskirting’ by talking non-stop for hours until deadlines for it to proceed further through the legislative process.
Philip Davies has angrily denied that his intention was to block the Voyeurism (Offences) Bill, but the effect of his droning helped to ensure its failure – and he has prior ‘form‘.
But the mainstream media have tonight been pinning the primary blame on Christopher Chope – or Sir Christopher Chope as he recently became.
Theresa May has said that she was ‘disappointed’ by the failure of the bill, which would have made upskirting a specific sexual offence – to the disgust and astonishment of Labour’s Shadow Women’s and Equalities Secretary Dawn Butler.
Ms Butler tweeted to May on Friday evening:
One option is to remove Chope’s knighthood – and finance guru Paul Lewis tweeted a pointer to how it can be done:
Stripping him of his honour should certainly be looked at – but the more important question is: what is Theresa May going to do to undo the damage Chope did to women on Friday.
Being ‘disappointed’ is simply not good enough – but on her past record, doing nothing else is the most likely outcome.

Disappointment is TM’s constant shadow. Is it any wonder she always looks so insecure and nervous.
In the Home Office TM could hide her Inadequacies behind the occasional set-piece speech but her shortcomings were very quickly exposed as soon as she had nowhere to hide.
TM is uncomfortable in her own skin because she knows that she is destined to disappoint.
I can’t think of a single reason for anyone to object to this legislation.

May’s limp hint at government support indicated no timeframe, suggesting the long grass beckons.
Can anything be done to get her moving?
I know there are lots of pressing issues but surely this is something that would have universal cross-party support and therefore take up very little parliamentary time?
Let’s hope Chope’s constituents remember his perversity when the time comes.
