Strong rumours: McCluskey has routed Coyne in legal case

mccluskey

No official confirmation of the decision is yet available, but strong rumours are emerging that the Certification Officer – retired judge Jeffrey Burke QC – has thrown out Gerard Coyne’s attempt to annul the result of last year’s contest for the position of General Secretary of the Unite union.

If confirmed, this will represent the latest in a string of rejections for Coyne’s attempts to force a re-run, after the Returning Officer, Election Commissioner and a judge ruled against him – with the first two even deciding that any breaches were, in fact, by Coyne’s campaign.

Confirmation of the decision will also embarass the ‘MSM’, who have spent several months talking up Coyne’s prospects of winning the case, in spite of his consistent track record of legal defeat concerning the election.
