Excl: Lansman to withdraw GenSec application. Bailey not applying

The SKWAWKBOX has heard from various quarters that NEC member and Momentum founder Jon Lansman may withdraw his application for Labour’s General Secretary position later today.

The move would be welcomed by those who don’t want to see Eddie Izzard assume Lansman’s NEC seat as the highest losing candidate in January’s NEC election, as well as – obviously – supporters of Unite’s Jennie Formby or Crowdpac co-founder Paul Hilder and those who believe the next General Secretary should be a woman.

This latter category includes Lansman, whose initial statement mentioned that he was applying to encourage female candidates to apply.

Meanwhile, the SKWAWKBOX understands that Bex Bailey – who according to sources was expected to apply by Friday – has decided not to proceed.

Mr Lansman has been contacted for comment but has not yet confirmed his intentions.

  1. Excellent news, the last thing we need right now is the potential fallout from a bloody battle.

  2. If Lansman does the right thing for the party and withdraws I will immediately reinstate the not insignificant regular donations I make to Momentum that I cancelled as a result of his application.

    1. It’s done, but don’t rush into anything before Tuesday – there may still be waves

      1. Thank you.

I will bide my time until the situation becomes clearer.

  3. good – he doesn’t have the people skills or a record on democracy to do this role…. getting support from some questionable people as well; Nick Cohen ffs!

  4. Good one Jon, you know it makes sense?
    To many cooks!
When it’s all over, I, as one of those that were suspended, would like an inquiry into the reason why, (although, we know why) for us, not partaking in the second election of, “Jeremy” as the LEADER OF THE LABOUR PARTY?
