The Tories’ struggles with social media are well known, from the crash-and-burn of the ill-starred ‘Tory Momentum’ Activate account, to their congratulations to the wrong minister during last week’s excuse for a cabinet reshuffle, to leaked homophobic WhatsApp messages, to the exposure of their recent fake-news attempt to claim credit for an EU law change and more.
But the unfolding car-crash of their efforts plumbed interesting new depths when they tweeted about a Theresa May campaign appearance – with thanks to a very special guest:
The very special guest was very special because he was over ten thousand miles away – as an MP in Australia:
Not only was he on the wrong side of the world to be helping campaign in Surrey, he is also a Labor MP.
A quick Twitter search ought to have saved the Tories yet more Twitter-related embarrassment. The Tory Paul Scully is not similar looking – nor even, apparently, in the image the Tories tweeted:
