A Labour preliminary investigation has cleared MP Clive Lewis of groping allegations. Due process has been followed, as it should be, and the evidence did not merit a full referral to the committee that judges disciplinary matters.
A party spokesperson said:
After consideration of statements provided by the complainant and the respondent, the National Executive Committee’s sexual harassment panel has ruled that on the balance of the evidence the matter should not be referred to a full hearing of the National Constitutional Committee.
The SKWAWKBOX has spoken to a number of people present at the party where the events were alleged to have taken place. One female witness told us:
He spent the evening after the mock game show dancing in the middle of a circle. No way could he have done what was alleged.
Lewis’ exoneration raises the spectre of possible politically-motivated allegations.
