Yet another BBC anti-Lab ‘failure’: Robinson says Corbyn didn’t respond on EU

The last couple of weeks have seen a series of ‘failures’ by the BBC in relation to Labour and its leader Jeremy Corbyn.

First the BBC showed the wrong footage on its Newsnight programme, claiming it was Corbyn’s response to Philip Hammond’s budget statement, when it fact it was more than six months old.

Then the BBC subtitles showed Corbyn talking about Hezbollah, when in fact he was talking about Prince Harry and ‘his brother’.

After that, Radio 4’s Today programme allowed GQ’s Tory-supporting editor – who paid £20,000 to write David Cameron’s biography – airtime to smear Corbyn after his interview with the magazine unchallenged and to claim his staff were Corbyn supporters without probing the claim. It turned out to be untrue.

Accidents or errors? Perhaps. But it’s an interesting coincidence that all the BBC’s ‘errors’ lately seem to be in the same direction, all undermining Labour.

And last night, there was another.

BBC journalist – and former Conservative student president – Nick Robinson tweeted about a Corbyn comment on the plight of the Rohingya people. He chose to use it as the platform for a remark on Corbyn’s silence over Theresa May’s Brexit debacle yesterday:

There was a slight problem with this ‘analysis’ – Labour had issued Corbyn’s statement two hours before. It seems Robinson realised he had put his foot in it, because 45 minutes later he tweeted that Corbyn had now issued a statement:

But this was exposed by the Reel Politik Twitter account:

This triggered an avalanche of humorous mockery, including a tweet from the JC4PM account showing Corbyn’s response, complete with timestamp – and quite a response it was too:

Others were quick to point out the astonishing crassness of calling the massacre of thousands of people ‘just about anything else’ – and the irony of Robinson’s self-appointed status as defender of the ‘MSM’ against the supposed fake news of the new left media:

Mr Robinson has neither deleted the tweet nor apologised for what constitutes yet another BBC error that just happens to go in that same old anti-Corbyn direction.
