The Israeli Haaretz newspaper has revealed yet another undisclosed meeting by International Development Secretary Priti Patel – one in which she visited emergency hospital facilities on the Golan Heights.
The article states that the facilities are treating Syrian civilians, specifically women and children. However, there is a major question mark over that claim. The government has already admitted that Ms Patel asked for UK aid to be sent to the Israeli army for the hospitals, but the news that Ms Patel visited them – and withheld that information – will put even more pressure on the weak Prime Minister to sack her.
But how much worse if the hospitals are not treating civilians.
As the SKWAWKBOX showed last night, the Wall Street Journal claimed in June that Israel was treating wounded Syrian fighters on the Golan Heights – a claim furiously denied at first but admitted later that month. And as there is an ISIS base near Golan, it is inconceivable that some of those fighters were not ISIS, as well as Al-Nusra, the Al-Qaeda front.
It’s possible that Ms Patel visited a facility on the Golan Heights treating civilians, but if Ms Patel not only tried to obtain funds for facilities to treat Syrian insurgents, but also visited those facilities where she would have seen them treating fighters and withheld that information – then her behaviour has been far more serious than merely a breach of the ministerial code.

Robert Fisk writing in the Indie some 2 years ago described witnessing how IS fighters were taken to Israeli field hospitals. (Strangely his pieces appear to have dried up; I wonder if there is a connection with the fact the Saudis now hold a 33% interest in the company?)

Subservience to Israel by Tory and some Labour politicians is undermining British democracy.
The worldview held by Conservatives and the right wing of the Labour Party is that it is in the national interest to bind ourselves to American foreign policy.
However, this claim collapses under scrutiny.
The disasterous interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen have all demonstrated that it is not in the interests of the UK to blindly follow US foreign policy.
In addition, such a worldview causes this country to compromise its principles by supporting apartheid regimes and dictators associated with the United States.
Our national security will be enhanced by taking control of our own foreign policy.

In August a cabinet member makes an “unofficial” visit to a very sensitive part of the world namely Israel. She has a series of meetings with senior politicians including the Israeli PM and those meetings are at the time Twittered all over the social media.
In the event of such a visit being made surely UK diplomats based in Israel must have immediately phoned the Foreign Office in London to let May and Johnson know what was going on. We are told however that the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretarty didn’t know anything about it until last week. It seems too that even our security services must have been unaware of where Patel (a member of the Government) was and what she was doing. It doesn’t put them in a particulaly good light does it?
The simple fact is that I don’t think that we are being told anything like the truth about to who knew about the visit and when they did or what is actually behind this ridiculous episode. No wonder Patel was having a bloody good laugh as she left Downing Street last night.
