As the SKWAWKBOX covered on Saturday, deputy PM Damian Green messed up the tweet of his strongly-worded denial of accusations of ‘extreme’ pornography on his parliamentary computer – by tweeting an uncropped screen-capture showing an email of the denial sent to him by his SpAd (special adviser) – raising the possibility that the denial had been written for him rather than by him.
It also revealed the name of his SpAd: one Dylan Sharpe – former Head of PR for the S*n.
Mr Sharpe himself became the subject of headlines almost three years ago – for sending a picture of a topless woman to news presenter Kay Burley and Labour MP Harriet Harman.
Not by accident. Intentionally – as a joke, as he later claimed. Ms Burley’s put-down was prompt:
Mr Sharpe was forced to apologise for his behaviour, but derision toward his actions was immense, including an article mocking the self-pitying nature of the apology. Whether his actions had anything to do with him no longer being at the S*n is not known, but it was a big misstep for a ‘Head of PR’.
So much for Mr Sharpe.
But what does the fact the he was subsequently employed by the Deputy Prime Minister, from the public purse – and may be helping him defend himself against accusations of inappropriate behaviour toward women – say about attitudes among Tory ministers and MPs?
