The SKWAWKBOX reported the debacle last week at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) of the Labour Party Irish Society (LPIS) – and exclusively the ‘smoking gun‘ emails revealing plans by so-called ‘centrists’ to set up the meeting to exclude members likely to vote against the incumbent executive team.
LPIS is an affiliated society that can exert influence over local and national party matters. Affiliated societies have been identified by Corbyn supporters as a key way in which the Labour right is trying to retain power and influence within the party, so while LPIS has previously been little-known, it’s a crucial example of the ongoing efforts of the Labour right to bypass the democratic will of Labour members, the vast majority of whom are behind Jeremy Corbyn and his vision for the party.
So allegations that the meeting had been rigged were extremely serious – prompting Shadow Chancellor and former LPIS Chair John McDonnell’s office to ask Labour’s NEC (National Executive Committee) to formally investigate.
Now the SKWAWKBOX can exclusively confirm that the NEC will investigate the proceedings – and if complaints are upheld, may annul the earlier meeting for it to be re-run under supervision.
A senior Labour source told the SKWAWKBOX,
There was really no question that an investigation was merited and the NEC called for one to be conducted without delay. This is an important case for democracy in the party and while Jeremy’s Democracy Review will address such issues for the long term it will take a year and there’s nothing to be gained by letting an illegitimate result stand in the meantime.

Humm forgive my scepticism but will mcnicol at the head of the NEC I’m not sure whether we’ll see any true Justice on this matter but one can live in hope
McNicol’s not at the head of the NEC. He’s at the head of party staff, which is bad enough – but the NEC now has a left majority
