There have been terrible scenes this weekend in Catalunya, where the Catalans – denied an independence referendum by the Spanish government – have been trying to hold their own, unauthorised poll on separating from Spain. Police have been filmed perpetrating appalling violence on peaceful protesters and even innocent passers-by:

The Catalan desire for independence has been seriously under-reported by the BBC, but Sky News appears to have taken a shocking “here’s what you’ll get if you don’t toe the line” approach to its coverage – at least in this tweet:
The appalling tweet was later deleted, but not before it was screengrabbed by a sharp-witted reader.
Police brutality has included police not only firing rubber bullets into crowds but also stamping on the heads of civilians and throwing people down stairs:

But the BBC News channel is showing virtually uninterrupted coverage of Tories droning at their annual conference in Manchester, while largely ignoring both the Catalan horror and the peaceful, passionate protest against Tory damage to our country:

Compare the BBC’s sparse coverage implying fault on the part of the protesters in Catalunya with the Corporation’s treatment of supposed ‘government repression’ of protesters in Venezuela – protesters who actually set people on fire – and you have a case-study in slanted Establishment ‘news’.
Almost 350 civilians are known to have been injured in Catalunya so far. The extent of those injuries has not been reported, but the scenes of wounded, unarmed people – people protesting peacefully in spite of intolerable provocation – have been horrific.
And the mainstream media in this country bleats that independents like the SKWAWKBOX are to blame for the collapse of public trust in the BBC, Sky and their peers among the British public.

Yes, they did better later. Sanitised the violence by showing less serious incidents and still made out it was two-way ‘clashes’ rather than police violence, though. Contrast with how they mis-portrayed Venezuela was stark

Should be broken up and consigined to history and forgotten, the only ballanced coverage of the catalan assault is on RT.. Good coverage.. Fair play to them!! BBC my arse..
