Added NEC member rule passes – by 99%

Labour’s CAC (Conference Arrangements Committee) has confirmed this morning that the rule-change to add three new CLP representatives and one new union rep to the party’s NEC (National Executive Committee) passed yesterday’s card vote with an astonishing 98.9% of members and union affiliates voting in favour.

The vote was higher among unions but only fractionally:

The process of electing the additional CLP representatives will now begin. Assuming the expected left members are elected, the anti-democratic move by the right at last year’s conference to rig the balance of the NEC by adding unelected delegates for Scotland and Wales will at last be fully negated.

USDAW will take the additional union seat by consensus, but not until the three CLP representatives take their seats.

Huge congratulations are due to everyone who campaigned, worked and voted for this landmark step in the re-democratisation of the Labour Party and the empowerment of its members.

Onwards and upwards.

  1. USDAW!
    SHAME?
    LEFT MEMBERS, HOORAY!
I ONCE WAS A MEMBER OF THE ABOVE FOR 2 YEARS!
    I KNOW, CRAZY OR WHAT?
IT ENDED IN MYSELF ASKING FOR HELP AND USDAW TALKING FOR MANAGEMENT!
ON TELLING SAID UNION OFFICER HE WAS ATTENDING TO REPRESENT ME, HE GAVE ME A PERPLEXED LOOK!
I ASKED THAT WE RECESS TO HAVE A WORD WHICH WE DID!
HE JUST DIDN’T GET WHAT HE WAS DOING WRONG!
    END OF RELATIONSHIP WITH USDAW!

  2. FANTASTIC news! At last, our Labour party is on the way to full democracy for all of our members. Jeremy Corbyn – I salute you! This is all down to you.

  3. Alongside the Kezia resignation (Corbyn +2), which enables her rehabilitation, and the GMB apparently softening its support for the warmonger faction of labour (Corbyn +4, even if only temporarily) , these three extra (2 really cos USDAW = -1 ) extra seats seal the deal: Labour is now definitively Corbyn led.

This is a real goal successfully acheived.

But it is not nearly enough. We must now clean our councils of austerity and war type politicians and clean our PLP of austerity and war type MPs.

We must drive hard to acheive this next success to finally win the confidence of those in the country whove been horrified by those representatives.

    Thanks to all.

    Up and at em.

  4. This is excellent news, and the first battle won in getting the Labour Party firmly back where it belongs – with us, the grassroots members 🙂
