Excl: pro-Corbyn ASLEF, FBU to take NEC seats

As the SKWAWKBOX revealed last week, the recent departure of Kezia Dugdale as Scottish Labour  opened a window of opportunity for Jeremy Corbyn by giving him a narrow advantage on the party’s National Executive Committee. It seems the Labour leader is not wasting it.

There have been accurate rumours for weeks that the anti-Corbyn USDAW union and the equivocal Unison have been trying to take an extra seat on the NEC, but the SKWAWKBOX can reveal that these will go to rail union ASLEF and the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

The FBU reaffiliated with Labour after Corbyn’s victory and ASLEF’s Tosh McDonald is a firm Corbyn supporter.

This is a massive step forward for the party’s leadership and membership – what should be the first of several that will be welcomed by the vast majority of Labour members.

  1. Nobody will ever convince me that Unison are not in the pockets of the bankers and therefore the Tory government. And I don’t give a damn if Dave Prentis (non-exec Director of the Bank of England) lazily stamps his face all over a professed “victory” for working class people in dispute as the corrupt status quo is restored at employment tribunals. We’re now back where we started i.e. being shafted and made unemployed by his chums in management and no further forward than we were.

Corbyn has a lot of urgent jettisoning to do.

  2. USDAW WHAT A BUM A UNION, TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE!
THEY REPRESENT MANAGMENT 100% PLUS DO VERY LITTLE FOR THOSE WHO PAY THEIR WAGES!
I WOULDN’T GIVE THEM ANY CREDIT FOR CONTRACTUAL CONDITIONS IN ANY NEGOTIATIONS THEY CONDUCTED AT THE PLACE I DID WORK!
THE STEWARDS WHERE AS BAD, IN IT FOR THEMSELVES!
DAYS TALKING ABOUT NOTHING TO MANAGEMENT OTHER THAN HOW THEY COULD PACIFY THE WORK FORCE WITH A RUBBISH DEAL THAT ONLY SUITS THEM!
WHILE NEGOTIATIONS WENT ON MANAGEMENT DID THE CHANGES!
USDAW JUST SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS, THEY OR MANAGMENT DIDN’T GIVE A TOSS ABOUT (STATUS QUO)!

  3. Fabulous news! Much needed at this point in time – just as those of us who have been standing up to the gerrymandering of votes around Conference Delegates, in CLPs up and down the country, are approaching our Hearings to be shafted out of the Labour Party! NEC members hear Appeals. Though the Powers That Be will no doubt try to arrange for right wingers to hear (and ignore) our pleas!
