Police statement re ‘fake polling booth’

Last night the SKWAWKBOX revealed that Avon and Somerset Police had received reports of a ‘fake polling station’ in Bristol on polling day of the recent General Election. The force’s press office has now issued a formal statement on what happened and why no charges were brought:

On 8 June we received a call about a stall on Gill Avenue following concerns it resembled a polling station. On attendance officers established the stall had been set up by local residents surveying whether members of the public would be interested in taking part in future community events. The stall had no connection to the General Election and no offences had been committed.

No information is available on what kind of community events were involved or whether the stall was only present on polling day, but the SKWAWKBOX is happy to provide clarity on this issue, which had been concerning local residents.

  1. It is so sad that this country is becoming more and more like third country, no dignity and no democracy. So sad, so sad!

  2. Ah, fair dinkum!

I take back what I said in the previous article about this…

  3. PLOD, SENT SOMEONE ROUND?
    “YEA RIGHT”!
    “I DON’T BELIEVE IT”!
MY SON HAS JUST HAD HIS HOME ROBBED!
    HE GOT AN INCIDENT NUMBER!
THERE TO BUSY TO DEAL WITH BURGLARS IN GREATER MANCHESTER!
AVON AND SUMMERSET FORCE MUST HAVE A SURPLUS OF ONE COPPER!

  4. bbbarabas That’s because of the cuts to the Police service. We are also struggling with them down here in the SW too. Someone ringing up & reporting something that wasn’t strictly true is different though. A Bobby checking to see if something dodgy was afoot, which if it had been a real fake polling station, would have been against all election rules & a criminal offence. Don’t blame the Police, if they are too busy to deal with a robbery. *i would like to point out i’ve not always been a fan of the boys in blue but i think they need our support not condemnation.

    1. It’s been like that for years. Was even like that under labour, with getting ‘crime numbers’ instead of actually dealing with crimes.

Granted, the cuts have made it worse, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that the plod are lazy, and choose which crimes they ‘investigate’ in order to ‘hit targets’.
