Video: ‘Different barrister’ thanks SKWAWKBOX readers, makes pledge

Yesterday, the SKWAWKBOX published the appeal by the excellent Duncan Shipley Dalton, an ex-soldier and barrister qualified in Northern Ireland and now living with PTSD in England, who needed to raise over £2,200 pounds to cover the cost of qualification to the bar in England and Wales.

Duncan’s PTSD had resulted in him living on disability benefits but he has been a huge friend to SKWAWKBOX readers, providing free, detailed legal opinions that have helped suspended and disenfranchised members and others. So we considered it a privilege to help with his appeal.

And we have the most magnificent readers. In around just 7 hours, the amount needed was exceeded by enough to offset Duncan’s crowdfunding costs as well as his exam fees. Duncan and his family were blown away by your generosity – so much so that he’s made a video to thank everyone who supported him.

In the videoDuncan outlines what it means to him and pledges to use his qualified status to help Labour members and to work for proper democracy within the party, as well as paying moving tribute to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn for the impact he had on Duncan’s life at a dark time..

Please watch, share and let Duncan have your support via the comments on his video:

Thanks also from us to everyone who donated, shared the video or offered moral support if they weren’t able to donate. There are ups and downs of running the SKWAWKBOX, but being able to help you to help Duncan was a huge ‘up’ and we’re very aware of the privilege and humbled by it.

The SKWAWKBOX is provided free of charge but depends on the generosity of its readers to be viable. If you can afford to, please click here to arrange a one-off or modest monthly donation via PayPal. Thanks for your support so this blog can keep bringing you information the Establishment would prefer you not to know about.

  1. What a lovely man! We need more like him.
Good luck with your future career, Duncan. xx

  2. Yes, a big ‘Well in’ to Skwawky for highlighting the appeal, – or else I wouldn’t have known owt about Duncan’s ‘pro bono’ good work and the advice he’s given to readers/contributors and the site itself.

Reassuring to know there’s people like Duncan trying for us little people.

  3. The Toffee: Don’t think of yourself as ‘little people’. That’s what the establishment wants. You’re as big as anybody else. Hence what Duncan said in this video about ‘the collective’.

  4. Go Dunc – all the best mate. Best wishes for the exams & a renewed sense of purpose in life. Give ’em hell!

  5. How lucky we are to have someone like Duncan on our side! Good luck to you Duncan in all your endeavours.

  8. How I agree a thousand times over with every word he says this is what IMHO Labour is about , solidarity , consideration empathy understanding and help where possible .
Proud to be a Corbynista , proud to be a party member , proud to be a Momentum member , well done Skwawkbox for getting the info out and giving me a chance to help .The power of alt news channels stuff the MSM .

  9. I APPLAUD YOU DUNCAN FOR YOUR COMMON SENSE APPROACH, TO WHAT’S WRONG IN OUR LABOUR PARTY!
IF YOU EVER CALL TO OUR CLP I FOR ONE WILL SHAKE YOUR HAND AND THANK YOU PERSONALLY.
CARRY ON RIGHTING THE WRONGS THAT CAUSED US THE LOSS IN THE LAST G E.
ALL MY VERY BEST IN THE FUTURE.

    1. I was thinking I would actually quite like to take the issues on the road a bit and speak at some CLPs. If there is any interest please drop me a line. I don’t know where your own CLP is but if it would be possible to visit sometime and perhaps speak about party democracy issues I would enjoy the opportunity.

      1. Are your contact details at Stormont, Duncan? My googling skills are a bit dodgy. 🙂

      2. Oh no not for a very long time now. If your CLP is in NI that could be a challenge as I am now in Southampton England. If you look me up on Twitter (Duncan ShipleyDalton) you could message me or try FaceBook. I am bit nervous of posting my email on here.

  10. Thank you, Duncan, for your support of Jeremy Corbyn, and for supporting the SKWAWKBOX. What a helluva amazing team you are.
I can only echo Rob’s all inclusive, comment: “Labour is about , solidarity , consideration empathy understanding and help where possible.” #forthemanynotthefew.
“Proud to be a Corbynista , proud to be a party member , proud to be a Momentum member, well done Skwawkbox for getting the info out and giving me a chance to help.”
We don’t need the mendacious news channels or the MSM, now we have Steve and his SKWAWKBOX, with Duncan’s invaluable support.
We do need to have a true democracy, where everyone’s vote counts, and that can only happen when we have proportional representation.
