The SKWAWKBOX has exclusively obtained a copy of a message circulated to Haringey councillors indicating that council leader Claire Kober will face a vote of no-confidence at the council meeting that will start tonight at 7pm:
The HDV (Haringey Development Vehicle) is at the core of a plan to ‘regenerate’ the area that is considered by many local residents and housing activists nationally to amount to a ‘social cleansing’ move by the council.
Opponents have strongly criticised its ‘segregation’ of the poor – plans for buildings include ‘poor doors‘, separate entrances for social tenants; there is little confidence that all residents moved out will ever be able to move back into the area, as the plan only involves a promise to do the ‘utmost’ to ensure there is sufficient social housing for existing residents to return to, with no firm guarantees.
Ms Kober may well survive the vote but the supporting statement for the no-confidence motion paints a bleak picture of lost trust in the local authority among local people and MPs.

A greater focus is required on Labour controlled councils the length and breadth of the land, where thousands of Blairite dregs and throwbacks are moving beneath the radar, abusing people they regard as “inconvenient” and breaching their statutory obligations to protect vulnerable people.
Doing the Tories’ dirty work whilst carving out your own personal fiefdom was never an option. Because that is NOT part of the Labour ethos. The time to step up and represent the people who put you there is way overdue.

If I’m not mistaken, I think there was only one labour councillor voted for Corbyn’s leadership (IIRC, she’s from a more ‘affluent’ area of the borough) and she was threatened by another (Now former) ‘labour’ councillor – One ironically, from perhaps the poorest area of the borough who also got a classroom full of disabled kids to deliver campaign leaflets.
