Charlie Dickinson of Liverpool wrote this. This whole country needs to read it #Grenfell

grenfell isolation

The text below was sent to the SKWAWKBOX by a Twitter follower. The people of Liverpool have a particular affinity with the victims of the Grenfell fire, because they know what happened at Hillsborough, how the Establishment tried to blame the victims – which they see happening already over Grenfell Tower – and because they know how hard it is to get justice when the rich and powerful close ranks.

One Liverpool man wrote his thoughts on Grenfell Tower, on how it fits in the overall pattern of what’s happened to this country over the last three decades or so. It’s powerful. It’s damning.

And its final lines need to be a wake-up call for a country that has tolerated the Establishment narrative for far too long.

  1. Would be good if not already happened that the Hillsborough Group that fought and lean’t for so long joined up with the Grenfell Group to assist them in there fight for justice as am sure they have much that will help

  2. Something occurred to me regarding the debate over empty homes in RBKC being used to house victims of the Grenfell disaster.

A minute’s walk from the Town Hall in the middle of rich Kensington behind Mcdonalds, is a lovely block occupied by the rich – Ingelow House.

Over the last twenty-one years allocations have been told many times that the stress I experience in my North Kensington Estate is seriously affecting my health, which is why in 1996 I first asked if it would be possible to transfer to another part of the Borough. One of the places I asked if I could be moved to was Ingelow House, but the flats had all been sold.

I posted this story on twitter and somebody told me that Zoopla showed that these flats now rent for between £2-3,000 pcm. If any researchers out there had the inclination to find out if there are any emty properties there or in any of the other blocks in uber-rich Kensington – Sinclair Gardens, Campden Hill Mansions etc it would be interesting.

There shouldn’t be that many to check if the search is restricted to the area between HIgh Street Kensington and Notting Hill Gate. There are no sprawling estates there as in North Ken – apart from Tor Gardens they are nice isolated blocks, almost certainly all sold.

  3. THIS CAN’T BE KICKED INTO THE LONG GRASS AS HILLSBOROUGH WAS FOR 26 YEARS.
THOSE POLITICIANS WHO TRIED AND FAILED TO KEEP WHAT WAS GOING ON AT ARMS LENGTH MUST BE NOW LEANED ON AND SUBJECTED TO THE HUMILIATION AND PROSECUTION THEY DESERVE!
NO MORE LETTING THEM THINK THIS WILL BLOW OVER SO THEY CAN CARRY ON GETTING STINKING RICH OFF THOSE WHO HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF CUTBACKS AND BROWN ENVELOPES!
