It’s official: Tories running SO scared they’ve CANCELLED their #GE17 relaunch

It’s been very apparent to anyone paying attention that there has long been a growing panic at the heart of the Tory General Election campaign. Increasing amounts of fake news from CCHQ, disastrous interviews by the few Conservative figures that Lynton Crosby will allow out and Theresa May’s bizarre tour of empty factories, her inability to meet a real person without wiping her hands and her speeches to bussed-in groups of, oh, literally dozens – all point to a campaign in growing disarray.

Of course, when you make your campaign all about Theresa May because she’s the best option you’ve got, you know you’re in trouble.

And all of this is only intensified, of course, by the Tories manifesto flop – a document that only has any detail in its damaging bits, like the Dementia Tax that has pensioners turning to Labour.

But it’s now official.

It has emerged – as reported by the Independent – that the Conservatives have cancelled the planned ‘relaunch’ of their manifesto after this week’s suspension of campaigning.

Here’s how the Indy is reporting it:

The Conservatives cancelled the relaunch of their election campaign, as nervousness grew over the party’s evaporating lead in the opinion polls.

Faced with the likelihood of difficult questions about the Tory campaign, David Davis suddenly pulled out of a planned event in central London earlier today.

With Theresa May abroad at the G7 summit in Sicily, it meant the effective relaunch of the Tory campaign, after the three-day pause because of the Manchester bombings, was put on hold.

Seems nobody can now miss the point – Labour is strong and stable, the Tories are weak and wobbly and the only thing they appear to retain any semblance of competence in is, well, running away.

  1. Great interview by Jeremy Corbyn with Andrew Neil just now.

His measured and reasoned responses were informative and substantive, in stark contrast to May’s gibberish ridden, defensive and wooden performance.

Mr Corbyn is looking increasingly prime ministerial as the campaign progresses.

    1. I agree with your comment. He was confident, statesmanlike and relaxed in the face of Neall’s thuggish hectoring.

  2. Seems nobody can now miss the point – Labour is strong and stable, the Tories are weak and wobbly and the only thing they appear to retain any semblance of competence in is, well, running away.

Unfortunately, however, the Tories are tenaciously competent at avoiding reasoned debate whilst retaining a grasp of the power. It is our collective responsibility as the public to ensure that, while they’re metaphorically running away, their physical presence soon follows!!
