More #Toryfakenews – even AFTER Hammond was corrected #GE17

As the SKWAWKBOX showed last night, if the Tories ever had any qualms about creating and spreading fake news, the growing panic in CCHQ about the popularity – and even media welcome – for Labour’s manifesto vaporised them in an instant.

Philip Hammond has been called out – in person – by John Humphrys of Radio 4 for claiming Labour’s spending plans don’t balance (they do) when the Tories calculate their spending in exactly the same way – and that they’d borrow to fund their plans. Here’s Hammond admitting it explicitly after Humphrys challenges him:

Similarly, while some other BBC ‘journalists’ were content to parrot Tory propaganda, Sky’s analysts agreed that Labour’s spending plans were fully costed – and Sky News hosts were ready to say so forcefully.

But that hasn’t stopped Hammond from propagating the lie.

The SKWAWKBOX has obtained a copy of an email sent out today by Philip Hammond to subscribers to the Tories’ mailing list – in which he repeats his proven lie as if it were fact:

Three repetitions of something Hammond knows full well is a lieand to cap it all off, he has the nerve to smear Corbyn for ‘not adding up properly’ when he’s already admitted many hours earlier (the timestamp on the email is hours behind British Summer Time) on national that he and his party would do exactly the same.

Humphrys called it right when he accused Hammond of repeating a baseless ‘mantra’. The Tories are the party of smoke, mirrors and outright lies – and are all too happy to make fools of anyone naïve enough to trust them.

  1. I joined the Conservative Party mailing list just to see what is going on. Received this email signed Phillip Hammond today (copied and pasted here)
    Dear Christine,
We’ve been going through the numbers in Jeremy Corbyn’s manifesto – and what we discovered might shock you.
The amount Labour want to spend is £58 billion more than the amount they are going to raise. That’s a £58 billion black hole in a single year – paid for by every family in the country with higher taxes and more debt.
Jeremy Corbyn said his manifesto was ‘fully costed’ – but if he can’t be trusted to add up properly, then how can anyone trust him to run the economy or negotiate the right Brexit deal for Britain?
We have to make sure there’s no chance of him getting into No 10 – donate today and stop him putting our economy at risk.
This £58 billion black hole is yet another reminder of the clear choice facing people at this election – the strong and stable leadership of Theresa May and her Conservative team to see us through Brexit and beyond, or a coalition of chaos under Jeremy Corbyn.
Over the next 22 days, we need to make this choice clear to every voter in our country.
So please get behind this crucial campaign by making a donation today:

    Thank you for your support,

    (Signature was here)

    Philip Hammond
    Chancellor of the Exchequer
