BBC confirms NUT #schoolcuts info correct. Exclusive NUT comment #GE17

The SKWAWKBOX has covered the huge damage to schools inflicted by Tory funding cuts that will affect every non-private school in the country – and the Tory voters switching to Labour as enormous numbers visited the National Union of Teachers (NUT)’s School Cuts website to see the impact on their local schools.

The scale of the cuts is so vast that some schools are even cutting maths and other core subjects by 20% or even more. The Tories have attempted to deny both the cuts and their impact.

Radio 4’s PM programme this afternoon carried analysis by More or Less‘ Tim Harford and the Institute for Fiscal Studies that confirmed that the NUT depiction of the cuts is correct, as this tweet by the NUT‘s General Secretary Kevin Courtney shows:

Mr Courtney exclusively told the SKWAWKBOX:

Many Tory MPs are just trying to deny reality and are attacking the NUTs figures. Today that’s been blown out of the water as respected economics journalist Tim Harford and the Institute for Fiscal Studies have confirmed that the NUTs figures are correct.

Huge cuts are damaging our children’s education – Tory candidates should stop hiding and say what they are going to do about them.

Indeed. The Tories continued evasiveness and dishonesty – in both general terms and on the topic of education – make a mockery of their claimed trustworthiness and competence.

If you have kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews – or simply care about children – and want a government that will provide them with a decent, properly-funded education, you simply cannot even think about voting Conservative on the 8th of June.

  1. As a Maths teacher in an LEA comprehensive school, I can confirm we have recently been told our budget for the next financial year has been cut by 20%. We’re already struggling.
