As the SKWAWKBOX wrote last night, Jeremy Corbyn will this morning give a speech to assembled nurses at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) conference in Liverpool. He will highlight the Tory waste of billions of pounds on needless ‘health markets’, their neglect of patients and NHS staff – and Labour’s plans to invest in our NHS, with every pound spent on public healthcare returning four to the economy, according to the World Health Organisation.
LibDem leader Tim Farron will also speak, although this blog expects that nurses will take any LibDem promises with a huge pinch of salt after that party’s collaboration with the Tories on huge spending cuts and its broken promises on university tuition fees.
Theresa May will not appear. She was invited – but according to the HSJ‘s Shaun Lintern, didn’t even bother to reply to the invitation:
Theresa May has a busy schedule – well, not that busy – speaking to cardboard-cutout audiences and visiting empty factories. So you might excuse her not attending – although this blog doesn’t think there are many more pressing priorities than our NHS and the people who make it work.
But not even to bother to reply to say ‘Sorry, I can’t come’?
As Mr Lintern observes – that’s a bad look.

of course she won’t be there…meeting real people who know the effects of Tory policies at first hand…May’s whole campaign has been about hiding in the shadows, avoiding accountability and relying on a meaningless mantra…her whole campaign is baseless, opportunistic and lacking in any integrity at all
Yes, I expect her carefully constructed fantasy of higher NHS funding and secure future wouldn’t last long on that gig.
