Apparently we’re ‘clickbait’ (but very inefficient if so)

clickbait kitten
Clickbait’?

The latest attempt by right-wingers (red and blue varieties) to undermine the SKWAWKBOX appears to be calling it ‘clickbait’. Even the Executive Editor of Conservative Home is getting in on the act (we must be going up in the world):

clickbait me

According to Wikipedia,

Clickbait is a pejorative term describing web content that is aimed at generating online advertising revenue, especially at the expense of quality or accuracy

Interesting, then, that if you go to – oh, let’s pick a random example – the Conservative Home site, any page you visit will show two or three ads.

Now look around this page. You should see none – on any of this blog’s pages.

The SKWAWKBOX pays extra to WordPress to remove even WordPress’ own advertising from its pages, because the aim is to make the information as accessible – and as readable when you get here – as possible. The point is to get the information out there, because it’s important.

It’s also interesting that ‘clickbait’ is ‘at the expense of quality or accuracy’, when every article on the SKWAWKBOX apart from the occasional satirical piece is detailed, sourced and researched. We don’t parrot Tory propaganda, for example – no names mentioned.

And on the rare occasion we get it wrong – we say so, publicly and usually within a very short time.

The SKWAWKBOX relies on the generosity of its readers and receives no kind of per-click funding at all. In other words, if Carlsberg made clickbait, it wouldn’t be this blog. Not everyone else can say the same. Which kind of makes you wonder why they’re so keen to use the term to smear this blog.

You’d almost think we were ruffling someone’s feathers.

The SKWAWKBOX is provided free of charge but depends on the generosity of its readers to be viable. 1. If being the go-to place for the breaking stories, the whistle blowers, the stories that are really important to the LP and the fight to return to Labour values, is the newspeak definition of “clickbait” then this is it. Of course you are ruffling feathers, but Tory ones too? You’d think they were as worried about a Corbyn unified Labour party as the old guard. Almost like they are all in lock step. Almost.

BTW I was wondering what is happening with the Copeland issue. Any update?

  2. I trust Skwawkbox to uncover the truth. You’ve not let me down so far. 🙂
As Florence asks, any more news re Copeland and those postal votes?

  3. MARK WALLACE, KETTLE CALLING PAN BLACK?
STAY OFF THE LEFT SITE AND STICK WITH WHAT YOU KNOW!
    THAT WOULD BE NOT MUCH!
SEEING THAT THE TORY SITE ADVERTISES, YOU COCK!
