URGENT: here’s why Labour delegates MUST defeat NEC’s pre-packed rule changes tomorrow

Please read and share this. It’s dry, esoteric, bureaucratically dull – and absolutely vital.

Tomorrow, Labour’s conference votes on a package of NEC-sponsored rule changes. These include measures to nullify the democratically-won pro-Corbyn majority by simply imposing additional, anti-Corbyn members – the very antithesis of democracy.

In order to try to force these measures through Conference, the anti-Corbyn faction are insisting that delegates can only vote on an ‘all or nothing’ basis – accepting or rejecting bad rule changes and good alike.

Attempts will be made again in the morning to ‘reference back’ (call a vote on) this anti-democratic tactic in favour of a line-by-line debate and vote that will allow individual measures to be approved or defeated. Attempts on the first two days have simply been ignored, in defiance of proper practice of allowing delegates to vote on the call.

Progress, the hard-right ‘party within a party’ funded by billionaires, recognises the importance of this matter and is calling on its supporters to fight the attempt to have democracy properly done:

Filter out the whining, dismissive tone, the PR-slanted, self-justifying language and the outright lies (there hasn’t been a vote on it yet as the Chair just keeps ignoring proper procedure and denying one) it’s clear the right-wingers are desperate to see their underhanded tactics succeed.

If you don’t fully understand why this matters, here’s an explanation. If you still don’t fully follow, then the mere fact that Progress wants it means it’s something every true Labour member should be looking to prevent.

So, if you’re a conference delegate, or if you know one, or even if you don’t, get this message out on your social media feeds to make sure as many delegates as possible are aware of this.

We need to create uproar if proper democratic purpose is steamrolled – and if the right is successful in ignoring ‘reference back’, then it’s essential that the full, illegitimately-bundled package is voted down.

Please get the word out.

  1. I’m impressed people can afford to join Progress. I’ve attended cheaper business seminars.

  2. Yeah – I saw that Luke Akehurst was furiously circulating this as fast as he could.
Luke Akehurst (Ex NEC) – is the most GLARINGLY GOOD EXAMPLE of how the RESELECTION process works at its best !!!

  3. The Welsh and Scottish Labour Parties should be completely independent of the England-dominated Labour Party anyway, as a first step towards dismantling the UK ,which has been a disaster for our economy and our culture
